Since the Family is the
basic unit of Christianity, and the husband and wife are the managing
instruments for the wellbeing of the Family, then it follows that if there is a
dysfunctional marital relationship, there will be a dysfunctional Family.
From before the foundations of the earth, God purposed that the husband and
wife would serve as the initial building blocks of the Family. Man and women
were placed together in the marriage relationship as an intimate functioning
team.
“ And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and
brought her unto the man.”
(Genesis 2:22 AV)
“And [Jesus] said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and
shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are
no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not
man put asunder.”
(Matthew 19:5-6 AV)
His commission to the parents was to teach and groom the Children so as to
worship and serve Him. The parental task was to establish and maintain a well
ordered Family unit according to the Holy Law of God. The Scriptures were to be
the absolute standard of their training. What is essential for us to grasp is
that these commands and commissions to the Christian parents have never been
disannulled. IN other words, as they were binding for Adam and Eve, so too are
they binding for us today.
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt
meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all
that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then
thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8 AV)
By the instilling of Holy
precepts and order into the Family, by way of the Word of God, the parents are
to groom their Children for the Glory of God. Yet, today’s Christian parents
are not exactly clear as to what the goal of the Christian home is, or how to
bring Glory to God in a pragmatic fashion.
